Amber Yellow Warning For Southport

Safety is paramount, stay safe out there. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Southport and the wider Merseyside area. Meaning there will be a strong possibility of heavy ice and snow across Southport later this week.

The Met Office say that frequent snow and sleet showers may lead to some difficult driving conditions and disruption to travel as we approach the weekend.

  • Some brief power outages are possible with a risk of isolated lightning strikes.

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

The Met Office said on Tuesday: “Frequent wintry showers arriving from the west overnight Thursday into Friday are likely to lead to a fresh covering of snow for areas above 200m (mainly around 2-5 cm, possibly as much as 10 cm over highest ground where showers are most frequent). Falling snow below this level may cause some temporary slushy accumulations which then may freeze and cause dangerous, icy patches where skies remain clear for long enough.” We don’t expect the weather to be extreme enough to stop or slow us down. But you never know. Please stay safe out there.
